Local Attractions
Steeped in history, the picture postcard village of Polperro offers an enchanting experience with its narrow streets and quaint cottages, where you can find excellent craft and food shops, cafes and restaurants. Fishing has always played an important part in Cornish life and visitors can take advantage of daily fishing and boating trips, including shark fishing.
There are many other historic villages nearby: Looe, Fowey, Mevagissey and Charlestown, to name a few.
For beaches you can can select from the wide expanses of the north coast, at Newquay and Polzeath, ideal for families and surfers, and the sandy beaches and hidden coves along the south coast. Inland there are the upland moors of Bodmin and Dartmoor, with their wealth of archaeology and mining heritage.
There are many gardens and historic houses all within easy reach, including the National Trust properties at Lanhydrock, Antony and Cotehele, Mount Edgcumbe house and gardens, the Lost Gardens of Heligan, and the biomes of the Eden Project.
There are miles of coastal and country footpaths, including easy access to the South West Coast Path, and a wide choice of outdoor activities: horse riding, sailing, golf, cycling, diving and much more.
Close to Little Tregue is the countryside around Fowey made famous by Daphne Du Maurier. A passenger ferry links nearby Polruan to the centre of Fowey, and a car ferry crosses at Bodinnick, home to Daphne Du Maurier for many years.
Further afield, but still easily accesible there are many other attractions in Cornwall - the ports of Falmouth, Penzance and St Ives, magical St Michaels Mount, the Lizard peninsula, with its rugged cliffs and hidden coves, Land's End, the Scilly Isles ( a day trip from Penzance), the enchanting open air Minack Theatre, and the bustling city of Truro, offering a wide range of shops and leisure facilities.
For those wihing to get around by public transport, there is a daily bus service stopping at Little Tregue, which provides access to Polruan, Looe, the Monkey Sanctuary at St Martins and Downderry. Take a trip on foot and get the bus back!
